Achieve Endorses California SEP Learning Progression Model for Middle School

As the California State Board of Education meets on September 3-4 in Sacramento, they will consider official action to adopt Next Generation Science Standards for California’s K-12 schools.  Achieve, a non-profit education reform organization has coordinated the NGSS development process on behalf of the 26 lead states and other partners, has endorsed California’s plan for learning progressions in grades 6-8.  California convened a “Science Expert Panel” (SEP) to make recommendations to the California Board of Education regarding Next Generation Science Standards.  During the SEP work, a design for middle school learning progressions was developed and made available for public comment.  These recommendations are included in Appendix K and can be located at
