October 10, 2009  Introduction to Multimedia Applications.  Creative Concepts in Digital Art & Design:  Character/Creature Design!  At San Diego Supercomputer Center. (Grades 10, 11)

October 17, 2009 –  Robotics Boot Camp. Join this one-day robotics camp at Legoland. Teams will learn to build and program a robot to complete a set challenges/missions  (Grades 8, 9)

October 28, 2009 – Interview & Essay Writing Tips for College. Make Yourself Stand Out When Applying for College. Tips and techniques for crafting a distinctive college essay/personal statement and showing your best self in the college/scholarship interview process.  (Grades 10 and 11 and parent(s))

October 31, 2009Find out Who Done It?  At SeaWorld you will investigate the remains of a mysterious marine animal washed ashore along the San Diego coast.  During this forensic investigation we will uncover clues to the mystery animal's classification and potential causes of death." After the program you can stay and enjoy SeaWorld.  (Grades 8, 9)

November 7, 2009 – Marine Science at NOAA Fisheries.  Visit NOAA Fisheries’, Southwest Fisheries Science Center, for a marine science workshop. Get hands-on experience dissecting sardines from the California Current, tracing the origins of marine mammal and turtle skulls and bones, and be introduced to cutting-edge marine turtle genetics research!  (Grade 8) Slideshow

November 10, 2009 – NOAA Active Fisheries Research Vessel McArthur II.  Tour the NOAA ship McArthur II, a 224-ft active fisheries research vessel that will be docked in San Diego in the midst of a three-month survey of the Southern California ecosystem and common dolphin populations. Explore the wet lab and dry lab, the flying bridge, the back deck, the living quarters, and discuss local oceanography, research methodology, and the status of the common dolphins.  (Grades 11, 12) Slideshow

November 14, 2009 – Puzzles and Paradoxes.  Learn how to solve old and new puzzles.  From the infamous Rubik's cube to the new Ken Ken to the age old Logic Puzzles.  Explore the math behind these fun games and amaze your friends with your skills.  Experience all of this on the campus of UCSD with knowledgeable math students and future teachers. December 5, 2009 – Water Testing and Tour, San Elijo Lagoon. A scientific look at San Elijo Lagoon in Cardiff.  Girls will experience tour of the grounds and new science center, after which they will test the lagoon water and judge it’s quality for the local flora and fauna using electronic sensor technology. (Grade 8) Slideshow

January 23, 2010 – Bright Ideas: Engineering with Light  Engineers harness the power of light to design electrical devices and manufacture complex objects.  In this session you will learn how fiber optics are used in telephones, and how your remote control communicates with your TV. You will also use an engineering program to design a key chain that will be cut using a laser. At University of San Diego. (Grade 8)

January 23, 2010 – Introduction to the Crime Lab.   Come see the real CSI.  Spend the afternoon in the San Diego Sheriff's Crime Laboratory learning how science is used to solve crimes. (Grade 10)

January 30, 2010 – Monitoring contamination in high-purity chemical production is vital to the products that we sell to the semiconductor and photovoltaics industry.  At Air Products & Chemicals. Students will have an opportunity to gown up in proper cleanroom attire, will enter our cleanrooms, and will work with our chemists and our scientific equipment to better understand the chemical properties of our high-purity products.  (Grade 11) Slideshow

February 6, 2010 – Determine Your Genotype With PCR. Trace amounts of DNA are used by forensic scientists to identify genetic ancestry. Extract  DNA from your own cheek cells and use the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and gel electrophoresis to identify inherited variations in your own genotype at the PV92 locus. DNA fingerprinting to test Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium. Presented by Bio Rad at Miramar College. (Grade 10,11) Slideshow

March 6 & 13, 2010 – From Sludge to Seawater by J. Craig Venter Institute. Learn about how pioneering genomic sciences is being used to explore new biologically-driven sources of energy and to uncover novel ways to mitigate our negative impact on the planet. March 13, 2010 – Structures in Action.  Learn about basic concepts of structural design!
