BEWiSE Botball Teams
BE WiSE Botball 2011Photos from 2011 2011 marked the 6th year a BE WiSE Botball team participated in the Southern CA Regional Botball Competition. The 2011 BEWiSE Botball team was the biggest ever with 15 girls, 5 of whom were on the team in previous years. The girls were from grades 8 - 11. This dedicated team came from Oceanside, El Cajon, San Diego, Temecula, and all points in between to twice weekly practice sessions. The team did an impressive job of working cohesively, and supporting each team member in the large group. The team received invaluable support, assistance, and encouragement from one mentor from Hewlett Packard, one from Knobbe Martens, and three mentors from General Atomics Aeronautical Systems. After working hard to design, build, and program two robots to meet the airport-themed challenge, the team was ready for the competition. Unfortunately, the robots did not perform well at the competition, but in spite of this the girls continued to work hard on fixes throughout the day, and provided loud encouragement (and even a team cheer) during the competition. Because of their excellent teamwork they received a Judge's Choice Award for Best Team Dynamics at the 2011 tournament. San Diego U-T article features the BE WiSE Botball team. |

Botball (ro-BOT BALL) is a nation-wide program that introduces students
to robotics by having them design and build their own robot using a kit
containing legos™, motors, sensors (light, pressure, etc) and
accessories. Then students program their “bot” using modified C computer
coding. In addition, student teams produce a website that follows the
development of their “bot”. Each year a new challenge (or game) is
presented and teams have about 6 weeks to complete their “bot” before
regional competitions.
BE WiSE girls in grades 8 - 11 are invited to participate on the BE WiSE Botball Team each Spring.
