HTF Orientation Registration

High Tech Fair Exhibitors and Teachers,

On behalf of the San Diego Science Alliance 2010 High Tech Fair planning committee, you’re invited to our PLANNING EVENT

February 17, 2010

Whether this is your first High Tech Fair or your fifth, you’ll value this opportunity to get together with exhibitors and teachers to discuss strategies for the best High Tech Fair ever, an interactive day on March 10, 2010 at the Del Mar Fairgrounds.

Remember that age-old comment teachers hear from students “why are we learning this”?   This is the challenge we are about to take on in co-producing the 12th San Diego Science Alliance High Tech Fair.  Yes, you’re in for CO-PRODUCING the High Tech Fair and we couldn’t do it without you.  Our orientation event on February 17th is intended to begin the dialog between the STEM community of exhibitors and science educators to produce the most effective interactions for students on March 10, 2010.  Here’s what we’d like you to think about and then come prepared to dive into the discussion.

  • What part of science applications excites you?
  • How do visualizations help us acquire information?
  • What kinds of questions do we want students to ask?
  • What kinds of answers do we want kids to come up with?
  • If we deconstructed a technology, what single science or engineering challenge does it address?
  • Analogies help tell a story, can we find some useful ones?
  • Are there non-verbal ways to express understanding difficult ideas?
  • How will we know if students “get-it”?

Our objective for this PLANNING EVENT is to have exhibitors identify great strategies for sharing information on their technologies and to have teachers identify effective structures to keep students fully engaged while at the High Tech Fair.

Exhibitors are asked to develop 3-5 questions that students may research ahead of time.
