2012 HTF Volunteer Information

Greetings 2012 High Tech Fair Volunteer,
The San Diego Science Alliance 2012 High Tech Fair is shaping up to be another great event! Your volunteer involvement is instrumental to assure that all participants are engaged in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math! The 2,700 middle and high school students and their teachers who register to participate will be prepared to dig into 'real life' applications that extend learning beyond the classroom. Our exhibitors represent various industry sectors and student teams are planned to “investigate” the industry strands including;
- Biotech / Bio-Medical
- Clean Technology / Energy
- Conservation/Environmental Science/Agriculture Technology
- Engineering / Aerospace / Transportation
- Healthcare Technology
- Information and Communication Technology
- Robotics
Volunteers must register online at: https://sdsa.wufoo.com/forms/2012-htf-volunteer-form/. Once registered, you will be contacted by the Volunteer Coordinator and will be provided a Volunteer Schedule, High Tech Fair Exhibitor Floor Plan, a map of the Fairgrounds (Wyland Hall circled), and a map for Tuesday evening parking. When you arrive at Wyland Hall, you will need to check in at the SDSA Hospitality table to sign-in, receive your High Tech Fair Volunteer badge and hear more about your assignment. Please also remember to sign out before you leave. Typical High Tech Fair volunteer duties may include;
STUDENT ENGAGEMENT: Walk through an exhibit strand and assure that students honor the exhibitor’s full presentation with their full participation. It is appropriate to remind students to tune-in and ask questions of the exhibitors. Middle and High School students may get distracted with all the stimulating exhibits, we want to be sure they remain focused during an 8-15 minute exhibitor presentation.
EXHIBITOR SUPPORT: Exhibitors working without help may need to step away from their exhibit for personal needs or to eat. While you won’t be required to engage students with the planned presentation, it may be helpful to monitor their exhibit while they are away.
GREETERS: School bus arrival and departure is managed by an energetic group of teachers and school administrators.
High Tech Fair event logistics of which you need to be aware include:
- An Exhibitor Lounge is available for exhibitors to get morning snacks and lunch, volunteers may also access this area for a quick bite and break
- Teachers have been well informed regarding their responsibility for preparing students for the High Tech Fair experience and informing them of their departure time
On behalf of San Diego Science Alliance’s High Tech Fair planning team, please accept our thanks and know that it is our privilege to work with the volunteers of the SDSA to provide exceptional opportunities for our region's science educators and their students. Please do not hesitate to contact us have any questions about your assignment.
