This program facilitates the interaction of 8th Grade Teachers from San Diego County with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Professionals from SPAWAR SSC Pacific through:
- Teacher Lab Immersion Experiences at SPAWAR, and
- SPAWAR STEM Professionals visiting 8th grade science classrooms to support science instruction
These activities will:
- Impact teachers’ understandings of the work-life
of a scientist, and via those understandings impact teachers’ abilities
to connect classroom science content and instruction to the endeavors
of professional scientists.
- Impact students’ understandings of the
work-life of a scientist, and via that improved understanding elevate
student interest in pursuing science-related careers.
- Help scientists effectively communicate their work and lives to teachers and students.
