Connecting today’s STEM professionals with tomorrow’s talent.

The STEM PC program enables meaningful and effective collaboration between Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics professionals and teachers in order to:
• Improve K-12 student and teacher STEM content understanding. • Improve student attitudes toward and interest in careers in science. STEM PC is developing a secure web space for educators and STEM professionals to establish contacts and form partnerships, and a matrix of age appropriate lessons and learning opportunities. The program's current focus is on the middle grades, and during 2009-2010 is piloting an 8th grade program in partnership with SPAWAR. This partnership effort builds on the success and lessons learned from a partnership between SDSA and The Biocom Institute to form the Science Education Speaker's Bureau in 2008 that enabled collaboration between life science professionals and 7th grade life science teachers. Results of this program indicate that teachers find value in collaborating with STEM professionals, but that program focus needs more emphasis on career development and how scientists use skills learned in the classroom in their worklife. “Science is more essential for our prosperity, our security,
our health, our environment, and our quality of life than it has ever been before.” President Obama |
