Girls in 6-10th grade participate in 3 investigative workshops in 3 different STEM disciplines. Girls are placed in small groups (10-15 participants) of similar age and paired with 2 female college age mentors who accompany them throughout the day. Workshops take place in laboratories and classrooms at the University of San Diego. Workshop presenters come from local universities, biotechnology companies, high-tech companies, STEM associated businesses, and government agencies. Girls have the opportunity to learn about science and engineering, engage in fun, discovery based activities, and discuss pathways that might lead them to pursue STEM careers.
Parents may register for a separate set of workshops focused on learning about STEM careers, how to prepare for and apply to college, how to support their daughters' progress toward a STEM career, or learning about other enrichment activities.
Transportation from selected locations around the county is available (see website for more information) and fee waivers are also available.
