TeacherTECH Arts Series: Introduction to Creative Applications in Multimedia for Educators

Elementary School, Middle School, High School, Community College, Adult Education Educators are invited to attend an exciting new TeacherTech multimedia workshop.   The workshop will be focused on learning to use free, open source multimedia software to engage and support your students in the classroom.

Saturday, December 5, 2009

9:00am - 1:00pm

San Diego Supercomputer Center, Room 279

University of California, San Diego

Workshop Description

Do your students want to create their own characters and worlds?  Do you know students who dream of being a part of a team of creative professionals working on creating the next generation of amazing popular media, including children's books, comics, toys, films and video games?

If so, then this workshop is for you!

Participants will be exposed to many of the basic techniques and common approaches to the development of conceptual art, including the familiar skills of drawing, painting and composition as synthesized through the digital medium, but also silhouette/contour design, using abstraction in development, and using photographic reference and the basics of image sampling using a free open source software downloadable on any computer. At the end of this exciting, intensive workshop, participants can expect to have generated their very own original character/creature design and will better understand many of the skills and techniques used by contemporary professionals in the field of imaginative illustration.  Participants will also gain an above average working knowledge of digital art creation software—knowledge that can be easily implemented in the classroom to excite and engage your students.

What you can expect from this workshop:

  • In depth tutorials on the exciting techniques and processes being covered.
  • Increased knowledge of digital art making tools, such as the Wacom Tablet and software, (Gimp, Photoshop, and much more!)
  • One original character/creature design, created by you.
  • An exciting and engaging experience.

Who Should Attend:

The workshop is designed for educators who wish to facilitate and encourage students who are interested in the creation of new images, animation and games. The workshop skills are also useful in visual effects, visualization, web development and computer graphics, in general.

Professional development credit will be offered through UCSD Extension. This is a one-quarter-unit course.

Please join us for an exciting and informative session of hands-on learning presented by Scott Flanders, Long Beach State University.

Registration is free. Space is limited. Please contact Ange Mason at 858-534-5064 or amason@ucsd.edu to reserve your space.
