Salk Institute Mobile Science Laboratory
The Salk Institute Mobile Science Laboratory is a free 3-day biotechnology program designed to complement the 7th grade life science standards. This acclaimed program will work with your morning classes to introduce your students to the exciting cutting edge world of biotechnology research. Your students will learn about phenotype-genotype relationships, uses of model organisms in basic research, the basics of DNA structure and function, and how DNA analysis techniques are employed in everything from genotyping to forensics. Students will observe mutations in fruit flies, extract DNA from plant material, and even do a mock gel electrophoresis in 3 exciting days of hands-on science!
