For those organizations intending to apply to the 2011 Science and Technology Community Grants Program, participation in this workshop is a prerequisite. Expanding on their work last year, the 2011 grant program will support organizations with math and science education initiatives to create and document the evidence of their positive impacts.
This no-cost workshop is open to all nonprofit organizations and school districts currently involved in K-12 science and math education initiatives within San Diego County. This will be particularly applicable for programs that target grades 5 - 9 and focus on enhancing teacher capacity.
The event will be led by Dr. Julian Betts, Professor of Economics, UCSD, who has published extensively on educational statistics, especially related to student achievement in the San Diego Unified School District.
The focus of this workshop:
- Learn about designing and implementing effectiveness measures demonstrating the positive impact of your program
- Review measures of student achievement and learning effectiveness
- Learn about rigorous approaches to designing evaluations
- Work with Dr. Betts and research associates to adapt ideas to your program
- Network with other workshop participants to realize opportunities to pool resources and ideas on math/science enhancement programs
Attendance is limited and requires completion of a pre-workshop survey online. Register by contacting Kerri Favela at Kerri@sdfoundation.org for the link to the online survey. Completion is required by Wednesday, December 1, 2010
