Elementary School, Middle School, High School, Community College and Continuing Education Educators are invited to attend our February TeacherTECH Art Series focused on creating a unique digital media project for your students for any subject matter using Photoshop.

Saturday, February 13, 2010

9:00am- 12:00pm

San Diego Supercomputer Center, Training Room 279

University of California, San Diego

Workshop Description

This workshop will include an introduction to the basics of digital image manipulation, including tools and techniques used by professionals in the fields of photography and graphic design to create a collage of photographs and images relevant to the subject you teach.

A similar workshop was held last month for high school students who created some exquisite artwork based upon the theme of family heritage, personal identity, and cultural diversity. I have attached one of the images as an example of what is possible using the skills and techniques covered in this workshop.

Such a digital media project could be applied to almost any subject. Let your imagination guide you!

Ideas could include artwork focused on your students' families, hobbies, sports or love of science and math. Ask your students to create a collage to summarize a book from your AP English reading list.  Create a campaign poster for U.S. Government or a more visually engaging timeline of historical events for World History.  Create a digital media project focused on life cycles for Biology and Life Sciences. Ask your students to create a collage of women scientists throughout history. Or have your students create a photo montage of US Presidents from the last 100 years.  This project can be an assignment that spans any subject or genre, the theme is up to you!

At the completion of the workshop, you will be able to take home a high quality photo print of your completed collage image so you can share it with your peers, students, family and friends.

Images created during this workshop will be shared with the UCSD community through digital display screens located at the San Diego Supercomputer Center.

For those who do not have access to Photoshop in your classroom, there are free open source options available for download on the web, such as GIMP and Picnik (both reasonably equivalent to Photoshop). The instructor will be mentioning these options during the workshop. If you do not have Photoshop and wish to bring your laptop, please download the 30-day trial prior to the workshop.

Gather up your photos and imagination and join us for an exciting and informative session of hands-on learning presented by artist and instructor Scott Flanders (www.scottflandersart.blogspot.com)

Registration is free. Space is
limited. Please contact Ange Mason at 858-534-5064 or amason@ucsd.edu and reserve your space today.
