Salk Institute's 20th Annual High School Science Day

One Saturday each spring, over 150 high school students gather at the Salk Institute, with their teachers, to visit the institute’s labs and explore the possibilities of a scientific career.

At the half-day program, Salk scientists share their experiences about the life of a scientist and provide advice on how to start a scientific career. The students hear presentations from senior and more recent faculty, postdoctoral fellows and graduate students in a program that changes every year.

The "future scientists" also tour several working laboratories at the Institute and take part in ongoing experiments. Lunch is served and students have the opportunity to have informal interchange of ideas and questions with Salk researchers. The program offers students one of their first opportunities to witness the life of a scientist and get expert advice on pursuing a scientific career.

Registration is limited to 5 students and one accompanying teacher per school – additional students may be added from a wait list as space allows. Registration deadline is Friday, February 12, 2010. Teachers will be notified of wait list status by Friday, February 19, 2010.
