EVENT:      Basketry and Other Woven Materials: 
                  A California Art Form
                                                        
Escondido, CA - The Kumeyaay-Ipai Interpretive Center and the San Diego Archaeological Center presents "Basketry and Other Woven Materials: A California Art Form."
 
California Indian basketry is renowned for its diversity, craftsmanship, and magnificence.
The San Diego Archaeological Center (SDAC) and Kumeyaay Ipai Interpretive Center (KIIC) is proud to present Diania Caudell (Luiseño) member of California Indian Basket weavers Association (CIBA) to conduct a two class series on basket weaving.
 
Class 1:  Introduction to Basket Weaving 
              Saturday, August 21, 2010, 8:30 am to 12:30 pm
              Kumeyaay Ipai Interpretive Center

This class features a media program on Introduction to basket- weaving and students will acquire the skills to weave a Cherokee style basket. 
 
Class 2:   Advanced Basket Weaving 
               November 13, 2010, 10 am to 2 pm
               San Diego Archaeological Center
               16666 San Pasqual Valley Road, Escondido

This class will feature a media program on advanced basket making and preparing materials for to start a coiled juncus and deergrass basket. 

 

FEES 

Members of KIIC or SDAC:  $40 for both classes or $25 for one class
Non members:  $75 for both classes or $40 for one class. Plus $10 material fee per class.


Reservations are required as this popular class will have limited seating. Please no children under 12. You are encouraged to bring a sack lunch to eat while enjoying the beauty and serenity of the San Pasqual Valley or the KIIC. Snacks, water and drinks will be also be furnished.
