The California Coastal Art & Poetry Contest encourages youth to reflect on the beauty and spirit of California's beaches and ocean, in order to inspire a greater sense of appreciation and stewardship for these natural places
The contest is held annually, and all California students in kindergarten through the 12th grade are invited to participate. Entries can be submitted at any time. Winners from each grade-level category (K-3rd, 4th-6th, 7th-9th, and 10th-12th) in both art and poetry are awarded a $100 gift certificate to an art supply or book store. Each winner’s teacher (named on the entry form) receives a $40 gift certificate for educational materials. All winners and honorable mentions will receive four tickets to the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, courtesy of the Aquarium.
In addition to being showcased on the Coastal Commission’s website, a selection of the art will also be on exhibit at the Ford House Museum in Mendocino from June through September, and at the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium in San Pedro from October through January. Other exhibit venues to be announced.
The deadline for the 2011 contest is January 31st. Visit www.coastforyou.org or call (800) Coast4U for details. High resolution images are available upon request.
