"Send an experiment to the edge of space! NASA-sponsored opportunity for middle school and high school teachers"
Would you like to send an experiment to 85000+ feet? Are you a teaching middle school through high school junior students? Then the University of California San Diego's near-space balloon team would like you to participate in a launch on June 12th! We go to the desert east of San Diego to launch weather balloons to the edge of space, where the curvature of the earth and blackness of space is clearly visible. You can design a simple experiment which will be carried by the balloon to the edge of space, then recovered after it floats to the ground underneath a parachute.
For more details, including pictures and information from previous launches, please visit the UCSD near-space balloon website. Our launch announcement can be found here, and includes application criteria and contact information. The application process is quick and easy, and we will get back to you very soon if you are selected. There is no fee to apply or participate, and some funding will be available to purchase experiment supplies.
The first meeting will be
held at UCSD on Saturday May 22nd for selected teachers. We look
forward to hearing from you, and hope you can join us for this exciting
opportunity!
We are sponsored by NASA's California Space Grant Consortium (CaSGC), and are
grateful for their support. For more information about CaSGC, please visit the CaSG website,
where you can view announcements about current and past events.
