Workshop Description
Back by popular demand! This workshop was offered in the spring and was enthusiastically received. Based on teacher feedback, we have lengthened the workshop by an hour in order to completely cover the vast array of material to be presented.
SpaceTECH - Engaging, Standards-based Astronomy and Space Science Activities for the Classroom
Kids of all ages are fascinated by astronomy and space travel, but teaching these topics can be daunting even for teachers with a science background. In this workshop Dr. Blanco will provide a brief overview of astronomy and space science. Using simple demonstrations, participants will specifically address many common student misconceptions about distances, gravity, and the Earth as a planet. Attendees will participate in hands-on, minds-on activities designed to engage students while teaching them skills required for science, math and literacy standards.
Participants will receive a CD-ROM with Powerpoint slides, applets, video clips and PDF student worksheets.
All participants will receive a workshop certificate endorsed by the San Diego County Office of Education for professional development credit.
Please join us for an exciting and informative session of hands-on learning presented by Dr. Philip Blanco, Director, Project ASTRO, Professor, Grossmont College.
Registration is free. Space is limited. Please contact Ange Mason at 858-534-5064 or amason@ucsd.edu to reserve your space.
