The Bold in the Cold

Join local scientists on a virtual research mission to Antarctica! For 25 years NOAA's Antarctic research program (swfsc.noaa.gov/aerd), based in San Diego, CA has spent as much as half of every year living and working in Antarctica. To celebrate our 25th birthday, we are teaming up with Whale Times to invite local school classrooms to "join" our research in January and/or February 2011 through daily communication, Q&A, and photos with scientists aboard a research vessel and stationed two field camps in the South Shetland Islands. Classes will also receive a poster, which they sign and send to Antarctica. Once the poster reaches Antarctica it will be signed, dated and geo-stamped by one of San Diego's own Antarctic researchers. A fee of $25 is paid to Whale Times to cover the cost of the poster.
