Free Teacher's Open House Featuring Project Archaeology

Teacher's Open House featuring Project Archaeology!

San Diego Archaeological Center

Please join us on Thursday, October 21st, for a glass of wine, appetizers and a chance to meet archaeologists and educators experienced in using standards-based archaeology lessons with elementary and secondary students.

  • Talk to local Native Americans about their culture
  • Explore the Center's exhibits and interactive displays featuring 10,000 years of local history
  • Enjoy a behind-the-scenes tour of the collection vaults
  • Participate in make-and-take activities with instructions on experiential techniques
  • View copies of Intrigue of the Past: A Teacher's Activity Guide for Fourth Through Seventh Grades and Investigating Shelter, A California Pioneer's Cabin Investigation for Third Through Fifth Grade
  • Examine lessons about the process of archaeology and issues in preservation of artifacts and sites

Representatives from the San Dieguito River Park will also be present to share information. The vision of the San Dieguito River Park is to preserve and interpret the natural and cultural resources of the river valley rom the river's sourceon Volcan Mountain, north of Julian, to the Pacific Ocean in Del Mar.

Event Timeline:

4-5 PM   Check-in, explore museum, enjoy refreshments
5-6 PM   Welcome, presentations, classroom demos
6-7 PM   Behind-the-scenes tours, field trip bookings
