TeacherTECH Tools Series: Learn Web 2.0 Technology for the Classroom: Websites and Social Networking

Elementary School, Middle School, High School, Community College and Continuing Education Science Educators are invited to attend our November TeacherTECH Tools Series workshop focused on utilizing Web 2.0 (social networking and blogs) technology to support learning.

Thursday, November 4, 2010

4:30pm- 6:30pm

San Diego Supercomputer Center, Training Room

University of California, San Diego

Workshop Description

The rush of computer technology into the classroom has been met at times with trepidation and open arms. Some are conflicted about whether this current wave (social networks, blogs, etc.) is another bell and whistle to entertain or truly a tool to engage and empower the learner. In this workshop, you will be introduced to the many available (and FREE) resources that have been created recently to increase our collaborations with friends and family (Facebook, Twitter, Google, etc.) and consider how they are being used by educators to engage students. We will also work through the steps of creating your own dynamic website and blog to allow for students to work together beyond the classroom (and submit their work electronically) without the need of expensive educational software.

Goals

  • Share current technology that is available online to engage and empower learners.
  • Review how educators are using the technology to advance learning outside of the classroom.
  • Provide instruction on the creation of your own classroom website, blog, Facebook, and Twitter page.

Please join us for an exciting and informative session of hands-on learning presented by Mark Salata,  Mining Gems LLC.

Registration is free. Space is limited. Please contact Ange Mason at 858-534-5064 or amason@ucsd.edu to reserve your space.
