Enjoy presentations of the aquarium's school programs, take a behind-the-scenes tour, win fabulous curriculum-based prizes, and more! Free to Pre-K to grade 12 teachers.

Perspectives Lecture - The Physics of Earthquakes

Monday, Sept. 13: 6:30-8 p.m.

Are you ready to shake, rattle & roll? Join us for this month's Perspectives on Ocean Science Lecture to learn about earthquakes. Scripps Oceanography physical oceanographer Kevin Brown will describe the phenomena that we experience as earthquakes and relate what scientists understand about the physics of these sudden and at times catastrophic movements in the earth's crust. Learn how Brown and other Scripps scientists are using a variety of techniques to better understand when, where, and how earthquakes occur. Cost: Free for members; $8 public.

California Coastal Cleanup Day

Saturday, Sept. 25: 9 a.m.-Noon

Join Birch Aquarium and thousands of volunteers throughout the state on Sept. 25 for the California Coastal Cleanup. Birch Aquarium, in partnership with San Diego Coastkeeper, hosts the La Jolla Shores Beach Cleanup. Volunteers are encouraged to RSVP online at www.cleanupday.org.
