"Students
will launch rockets, construct miniature windmills, and get their
hands dirty. They'll have the chance to build and create -- and maybe
destroy just a little bit -- to see the promise of being the makers of
things, and not just the consumers of things."
~President Obama

Back to School
Letter from the CEO

One of my favorite times of the year is August; the month of
returning yellow school buses, kids reuniting with friends and sharing
stories about their summer activities-hopefully based in STEM-rich
learning, and teachers gathering together and planning the school year.
With the recent release of National Academies' report, A Framework for K-12 Science Education, I have even more enthusiasm for this year than any other. This
new framework addresses the need for improvement in science education
that incorporates engineering and technology and also, addresses key
ideas and practices that students should know by the end of high school
in order to be prepared for post-secondary education and a promising
career. As with any evolution, this change will take time and
support. CSLNet urges you to join us in ensuring this new effort
transforms how we teach kids science as part of an integrated STEM
curriculum. On a lighter note, I want to thank our Facebook fans
who has helped us increase our "Likes" to celebrate CSLNet's one-year
anniversary. Please continue supporting us and helping us get to 500
Likes!
Sincerely,

Chris Roe CEO California STEM Learning Network
