Artifact Casting Workshop, A Second Saturday Event Saturday, April 9, 2011 10:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Location: San Diego Archaeological Center, 16666 San Pasqual Valley Road, Escondido, CA 92027 This fast-paced workshop will include an introduction to casting materials and applications. After an instructor-led demonstration, replica artifacts and casting materials will be provided to participants for a hands-on learning experience. Participants will be able to take home their castings at the end of the workshop. FEE: $20 for Center members, $40 for nonmembers. Reservations are required as seating is limited to 25 participants. Limited to participants age 14 and older. |

Class 1: Artifact Photography at the San Diego Archaeological Center (SDAC) Saturday, May 14, 2011 10:00a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Location: 16666 San Pasqual Valley Road, Escondido, 92027 Digital photography is a valuable tool for documenting cultural material. Photographers are continuously striving to capture and record on film the "essence" of artifacts that give clues to their creation and function. Participants will be introduced to various techniques to digitally photodocument artifacts, including composition, lighting, and scale. The class is open to all-novices to professionals. A digital camera is required. This class is limited to 20 students. Please bring a sack lunch. Snacks, soft drinks and water will be provided. Class 2: Rock Art Photography at the Kumeyaay Ipai Interpretive Center (KIIC) Saturday, October 15, 2011 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. or later if needed Location: 13104 Ipai Waaypuk Trail (Silver lake Road), Poway, 92064 --Introduction to basic camera controls to optimize photo capture: Including controls on point-and-shoot cameras, as well as single lens reflex and other professional cameras. --Photographing in the field: Discussion of ancillary equipment will be presented, including special lighting, tripods, filters, lenses and specialized cameras. Methods for capturing specific rock art panels in the field and official recording will be given. This class is limited to 20 students. Please bring a sack lunch.
