Life Sciences Summer Institute - High School Research Program Applications Due March 28, 2011.
The High School Student Research Program is designed to help increase awareness of the life sciences industry and related field of research to students in the San Diego region. Students learn how to formulate and test hypotheses, prepare experiments, and draw conclusions from those experiments. Students will develop scientific posters reflecting on their experience and highlighting their research and future career goals.
Program Description: The High School Student Research Program, a part of the Life Sciences Summer Institute will be held June 20-August 12, 2011. The program begins with a one-week unpaid pre-internship “boot camp”, followed by a 7-week paid research internship; including enrichment activities.
Boot Camp Training: Students attend a one-week pre-internship “boot camp” from June 20-June 24th, 2011. Boot Camp is unpaid; however, college credit is made available for those who qualify. Boot camp is held at either the Southern California Biotechnology Center at Miramar College or Grossmont College.
Paid Internship: Students are paid $9.00/hr for the 7 week internship and required to work full time Monday thru Friday (no exceptions).
