Padres Science Field Trip Day: April 27, 2011, in partnership with the San Diego Science Festival
The Padres will be hosting the first annual Science Field Trip Day on Wednesday, April 27,
that will provide teachers a unique educational opportunity that will
show students what science looks like outside of the classroom. A
number of fun activities are planned throughout the day including a "Fire and Ice" show presented by the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center that will teach students about the states of matter,
combustion, and liquid nitrogen through different exciting
experiments. A Padres player will also make an appearance and speak
about the importance of education. The program will begin at 10:30am,
plus everyone will receive admission to the Padres game at 12:35pm.
For more information please contact the Padres Group Sales Department

Doppler on Wheels at Festival Kick-Off Day at Balboa Park: March 19 (see photos attached)
Join
us March 19 in Balboa Park to meet a famous storm-chasing scientist and
climb inside the cockpit of a 26,000 pound Doppler on Wheels - the
biggest mobile weather radar to ever visit the park! Dr. Josh Wurman, creator of the Doppler and President of the Center for Severe Weather Research,
will answer your questions about tornadoes, and share stories from the
field based on his involvement in the VORTEX2 tornado study, the most
comprehensive severe weather research study in U.S. history. The kids
can actually climb all over this vehicle.
REMINDER: Free
Transportation to EXPO Day - We Have Not Had Many Takers for This Great
Resource! It would be a shame not to use these funds for
transportation. Generous sponsors have underwritten the cost of MTS
(Bus, Trolley, Coaster) DayTripper Classroom Passes for all schools in
San Diego County. This is a great opportunity to help the Festival go
green! We also encourage you to choose this option since it gives you
flexibility in the size of group you bring, time of departure/return,
and because this program is so affordable we can bring many more
students to the EXPO! The UC San Diego
Cal-SOAP grant has also generously provided school buses to schools in
Sweetwater Union (and feeder districts), Grossmont Union (and feeder
districts), San Diego
Unified, and Oceanside Unified school districts. Forms to request
either MTS DayTripper tickets or a school bus for your school are
available on our website: http://sdsciencefestival.com/teachers-resources.html.
