TeacherTECH and the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center Present - Strengthening Student Scientific Explanations in Earth Science
Educators teaching grades 3 - 9 are invited to attend a special TeacherTECH Earth Science Series offered in collaboration with the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center. This exciting workshop is focused on hands-on earth science activities and resources to engage your students while teaching the standards.
Saturday, May 21, 2011
9:00am - 12:00pm
Reuben H. Fleet Science Center, Balboa Park
Workshop Description
Spend the day at the Fleet Inquiry Institute at the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center examining how scientists, students, and the general public formulate scientific explanations. Learn a research based, student centered framework you can use in your classroom to help strengthen student scientific explanations. Explore the Ends of the Earth: From Polar Bears to Penguins exhibit at the San Diego Natural History Museum and further discover how scientists communicate their scientific explanations about climate change.
Admission to the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center and the San Diego Natural History Museum will be provided.
About the From the Ends of the Earth: From Polar Bears to Penguins Exhibit
Our polar regions are icy, mysterious, and as different as polar bears and penguins. Discover the fascinating facts about these frozen expanses at the San Diego Natural History Museum’s newest and coolest exhibition, May 14, 2011–April 15, 2012
Travel from one end of our globe to the other to explore the fascinating (and cold!) worlds of the Arctic and Antarctic. Explore the unique nature of the Earth’s polar regions, the current science being undertaken there, and learn about these regions as indicators of climate change on our planet.
All participants will receive a workshop certificate endorsed by the San Diego County Office of Education for professional development credit.
Please join us for an exciting and informative session of hands-on learning presented by Cristina Trecha, Fleet Inquiry Institute Project Director.
Registration is free. Space is limited. Please contact Ange Mason at amason@ucsd.edu to reserve your space.
